This painting is testament to persistence. I think there are about twenty layers of paint underneath the one you see here, because I never could get something I liked. Only when I decided to pour a lot of paint on the already heavily textured canvas, dump a bucket full of water on that, take rags and make the broadest gestures I could--it was lying on the floor--and then wait several days for it to dry so I could stand it up and see if I did indeed have a painting did I decide to keep it. In fact as time has passed, this one has become one of my favorites. It's 6'x5' in size, and it's very heavy.
